Steps On How To Change An Oxygen Tank

Here are the steps on how to change an oxygen tank:

  1. Make sure that the tank is OFF.

  2. Turn the Conserving device/regulator to OFF/0 by turning the dial.

  3. Turn the Adjustment knob to loosen from the tank. You may hear some air release as you loosen the knob, which is air that was built up in the device.

  4. Then slide the device off the tank.

  5. There is a gasket attached to the device that needs to stay on it.

  6. Take the plastic tab off the new tank.

  7. Slide the device over the top and set the alignment pins into the tank and tighten the device to the tank with the adjustment knob.

  8. Check that your cannula is secured, turn the tank on, then set the device to your prescribed liter flow.

  9. On a conserved setting you will not hear or feel the oxygen flow until the patient takes a breath through their nose. To test, suck on the nasal prongs of the cannula and you should feel a puff of air against your tongue.

  10. If the device is not set on the tank very well and the tank opened, the air escaping is very loud and should be turned off immediately.
